Arghh i just got this notification on my laptop anyone know anything about them to tell me if its serious or what to do???

I can't give you a perfect answer, but as far as I know ntvdm.exe is not an essential service or process. It is probably connected to a program you're using so the right thing to do would be to restart the computer.

I could have expressed myself more precisely in the last answer: NTVDM.exe is not essential for your computer working normally. But it is used by Windows to run older software.
Do you keep your Windows-installation updated? E.g. for Win XP the Servicepack updates contained a stabilising correction for NTVDM.exe

Thankyou for your reply Frydenholm.. i'm on windows vista and have recently done a complete restore to the day i bought the laptop, as far as i know i have all the latest updates but i will run it all again an get back to you :) Thanks again .. much appreciated! i'd cry alot if i couldnt play poker hehe

I've restarted (which i did when i 1st saw the message) also there are no new updates .. but if its not going to make my laptop die in the near future i'm happy lol Thanks Frydenholm..you've saved this damsel in distress!!

ffs !!!! My turn, I am at my mums house as my PC went bang last night. Thankfully I am a tech so I should be able to get it up and working ASAP. Here's hoping I am not a stranger in the next week. Here's hoping the bang was merely a power supply and not the motherboard !!!

Ok I am back online :) all fixed, just a burnt out power supply :) .... I will go check out what yours is doing Slinky. I thought you had repaired it my appologies

Slinky what did you do when it first popped up? Was it while updating windows? Installing programmes? Or nothing at all?

Nothing at all it just appeared.. but havent had the message today though so fingers crossed it was nothing :D
