I have no idea if that is true or not, but i have heard it too.

It should be something about the fact, that it is not breathing through the mouth, but through some sort of tubes around the body that is not working like our lungs. Secondly it does not have a central nerveous-system, but many small ones. That should make it possible for it to move and breath even without the head.

The most grotesque part of the story i heard was that the cockroach actually dies of dehydration or starvation due to the lack of head, and not because of the injury itself.....

But, as i stated earlier, i have no idea if its true or not.

Perhaps we should get mythbusters to look into it.
