My name is Frank Wiese. I have been playing tournaments and cash games for several years, and have decided to write a book called Eat Professional Poker Players Alive.
The inspiration behind this book comes from the amount of information in other poker publications that I have found to be incomplete. In my book, I outline the basic rules for playing today's Texas Hold'em, Razz, Stud and Omaha. I also showcase the best places to play poker. The book is designed to take you from beginner to advanced to expert. The real gem in this book, however, lies in the medium ball strategy I teach. The strategies and hand example that are shown and explained in my book are what sets it apart from other poker publications.
The objective of medium ball is to be able to hold your own and even outplay the "big boys," or the poker pro's that are out there. My book is endorsed by Jerry Yang, 2007 World Series of Poker Champion, and is guaranteed to dramatically improve your game. The book is due at at the beginning of next year. Thank you for your consideration and support; I know that you will find this book interesting and helpful! Happy playing!

Welcome to the forum Frank
I'll have a look at your book when it comes out. What would you say makes it different than other books on the market?

sounds great frank. we could use some good strategy talk.
i'll have another read of this later but the one thing that jumped out at me was:
Fish>avoid coin flips
I actually think fish (or losing/break even players) should seek out coin flips in tournaments. Avoiding coin flips is generally for people who see themselves as having a big edge over the field, and wanting to reduce the luck factor. If you do not have a big edge on the field, your best hope is to win a bunch of coin flips and get a massive stack.
This was the strategy employed by Buldermar when he won our last longer bet in the ECOOP last night :D

Hmmm, coin flips are risky business, I only advise them when you can afford to lose them.
Luck is only "short term" and coin flips should be to a minimum when your hopes of winning a tournament is a priority not just to last longer or survive in one.

avoiding coin flips=survival
taking coin flips=lots of chips=hopes to win the tournament
yes i think this is the part you should put in the strategy section for discussion :)

I coin flip when there is no other choice. When I am in a position I shouldn't be to start with, with less blinds then I should have and no chance of staying in otherwise. E.g holding A9, 1 or no callers. Final table next hand i could be blinded out with crapper cards. :p

i coin flip in tough tournaments, like the $109 rebuy on stars. because i know the field is so tough i'm going to have to get lucky to win it.
in a tournament like the sunday million, where 20% of the field has no pulse, 20% are slobbering, stumbling hobo's and 20% barely understand the rules of poker...i avoid coin flips like the plague because i want to minimize luck and beat them with skill

Coin flips are much more effective playing live versus online.
Luck seems to favor you more in live tournaments versus online versions

Welcome aboard :) Seems like you have some good chapters in the book and i might buy it, most interesting one i think would be the tableimage one, especially online at mid and highstakes its a really important thing so that would be a good read i think :)

I think this is a much better way of putting it than trying to avoid them if you want to win the tourney. I agree that the proper reasoning should be based on the edge. If you have a huge edge on the field then you should probably avoid coinflips as best as you can. The smaller your edge the more feasible strategically it would be to coinflip.
