Tom "Durrrr" Dwan Issues the Million Dollar Challenge (http://www.theplayr.com/en/news/item.asp?id=163)
“I’m making this heads-up challenge to the world. Anyone can accept. Four tables, minimum of $200/$400, and I’ll put up $1.5 million to their $500,000. We play 50,000 hands minimum and if they end up a dollar after rake they keep the side money or whatever. So basically, if you and I played and you won a dollar, you would get my $1.5 million and if I won a dollar I would win your $500,000.
“So I’m giving a million dollars free if anyone thinks they can do it.”

I think Antonius has to accept this after all his complaints of getting no action in heads up NL and complaints that because he gets no action his game is getting rusty and that he will play anyone out there.

I doubt Antonius will accept this offer. The only person I can see taking this offer would be Phil Ivey and he probably consider it a waste of his time due to the fact that it would be a very even but long match. 50k hands on 4 table is 12,5k/table. Even if they play 2 hands/min it's over 100 hours total. It doesn't sound like all that much, but if you have to be fully concentrated it is. I just can't see anyone accepting his offer, taking the circumstances of the offer into consideration.

I think Peter Eastgate is thinking about it

If durrrr has a 2ptbb/100 edge on the guy it isnt a plus ev thing and most of the players that paly those stakes are his friends. i think it is basically directed at antonius ziggy and benyamine

I think OMGGayAiken should take this offer, but some people say he's not allowed to. I havn't been able to confirm that tho. I know that him and Tom are close friends so I doubt it would happen even if he is allowed to.
I think the following players would have a +EV taking this offer due to the 3:1 odds:
Phil Ivey
Patrick Antonius
OMGClayAiken
Perhaps David Benyamine
Keep in mind that it can be 50k PLO hands as well.
What I really want to see is Rivergate taking this offer, but even a blind monkey knows when the hob is hot.
mustardeggs
01-05-2009, 05:27 PM
50K hands is such a small sample that I think it could be +EV to take this offer even if youre a -2BB/100 underdog.
Buldermar
01-05-2009, 05:46 PM
Btw. I am willing to bet anyone I trust that nobody will take durrrr up on his offer before the end of this month. I am offering odds 1:1.

Today he has taken Phil Galfond out of the pool of potential opponents. So he will play anybody other than Phil Galfond.

hmmmm, you bet that nobody accepts or that they don't do it?
I think somebody might say they accept and then they will stall or argue and somebody will bitch out over some detail or something.
If you just make a 1:1 wager that nobody ever says 'I accept' (a known person, Phil Ivey, Gus etc)....I would probably bet you $100 or less.
Buldermar
01-05-2009, 05:52 PM
if you are a -2BB/100 dog you will be down 1kBB's after 50k hands on avarage. On 500$/1000$ that's 1mill. Even on 200$/400$ it's still 400$. Besides, I actually think most players are more than a 2BB/100 underdog against durrrr playing NLH (idk about PLO, The hand range is closer and the variance bigger but so is the size of the pots usually).
mustardeggs
01-05-2009, 05:57 PM
not every 2BB dog is down exactly 2BB/100 over 50K hands. In fact poker is a crazy game with high variance someone hwould have to do the math on that but i think there is a pretty cool chance that his offer is slightly + EV if youre a 2BB looser. Iam not saying it is but I think it could be
Degen
01-05-2009, 06:28 PM
50k hands might not be a long time if you are talking about playing 6-max vs randoms, but if you are playing one player heads up, that is a very long time. it is certainly possible for durrrr to take a 2bb edge and magnify it to a 5bb or more edge after fully analyzing the other guys strengths, weaknesses and tendancies.
Degen
01-05-2009, 06:31 PM
4 tables heads up at 125 hands per hour per table is 500 hands an hour, this is 100 hours of poker. i'm pretty sure durrrr would possess the soul of most people after that amount of time.

from what i have seen there are three official challengers starting with David Benyamine where they will be playing omaha and i have to assume patrik will be doing omaha as well. Im not sure which game ivey would choose.

Wtf?!! Benyamine lol .. IMO he will lose!! But Ivey now thats different story, i think my money would be on Ivey to win but i think it would be some awesome poker to watch, any idea's where they will do the challenge? FTP i pressume?!
Looking forward to this..

What do you think about this WD? Ivey to win? These two are close friends and will probs just give the money back after lol
Mlubin
01-07-2009, 07:13 AM
Although the question wasn't directed at me im pretty sure that WD and i both agree that durrrr has an edge in these matches though possibly for different reasons. I think durrrr is the only one with any experience playing this many headsup tables and this should give him or add to his edge in these games. I think Durrrr will likely run over Ivey at the beginning and then the match will even out as it progresses and Ivey develops the ability to think and play quick enough to make proper decisions at 4 omaha tables.

I think Ivey might be a slightly better player if they played one table. However Durrrr is far more experienced multi-tabling and I think that makes him a clear favorite...at least for the first 10,000-20,000 hands...and he could very well win so much in that time that Ivey cannot get even, or even quits.
So my money is on durrrr

The match should definitely be very interesting and it will be really cool to see the kind of adjustments they make over playing this many hands against the same player.
