idk I really dont like any beers in thailand because they only have lager beer. Where I come from we only drink pilsen, the only real beer imo.

For that reason ship cambodian beer, writing this iam now sure ill do my visa run to cambodia besides of beeing busto as another reason:)

does anyone think buying a new iphone 3G 16gb for 6k baht from a market in phuket is a bad idea? They say it's brand new, unlocked and with the box. I just can't see how it can be that cheap seeing as everywhere else I've looked in thailand is like 20k+. They also had a brand new samsung omnia for 5k and the same phone is 26k in the mall round the corner. scame?

before you buy this you should def check it, inside and out and see if the software is original

That phone is like 99% fake. Was looking at a bunch of "iPhones" at MBK the other day and while they looked pretty decent from the outside the software was very much not original. If you know someone who has an iPhone, try to bring it with you when you go or play around with it first to get the feel of what it should be.

The fakes were of differing quality. Some had obvious mistakes on the case, others had flawless cases. The telltale sign was in the software. The fake software isn't the same (though it looks similar if you don't know how an iPhone really is) and is pretty bad comparatively. Either the hardware sucks or the software is written poorly but there is severe lag and many of the features are missing.

Also, the fact the same place sells iPhone minis which don't exist is a good sign that you are getting a fake. Although, the places in MBK certainly didn't try to hide the fact they were iPhone copies and not the originals when asked. A few places sold the originals and they were going for around 30,000 baht.

There also seemed to be a ton of fakes phones at MBK besides the iPhones and the vendors were openly trying to get people to buy copies instead of the originals. That said, this is only the situation at one place in Bangkok and while it seems likely to be the case at any place offering an iPhone for 4 digits baht, I obviously can't be certain.

ya i dont know if i got scammed or what but i bought a 3g a couple weeks after they came out at MBK. everybody was selling them for a fixed price, 40k IIRC, and i found one place that agreed to sell me one for 5k less.

thing worked for about two days then stopped recognizing my sim card. brought it back and they made me wait forerver and finally got it to work. by the time i got off the bts it stopped working again. i downloaded some unlock stuff online and tried to unlock it and now i cant even listen to music. just a $1,000 paperweight.

so ya, moral of the story, IME getting a discount unlocked iphone is a bit like getting a discount dentist. you don't only have to trust the phone is legit (brand new, not a defect or returned/broken/repaired..or a fake) but also that they did a good job unlocking it. however i've only tried it once so YMMV

lol i've had an iphone for over a year now :s. the software looked exactly the same. So I really don't know? Well I'm going back on saturday so I'll re check again. Like you said though this is probably 99% a fake but I just couldnt believe how perfect it looked. I'd just never have guessed it was a fake. It's the new Iphone 3G with 16G, I just fancied an upgrade from mine.

i almost bought one of those and know people who have it. you paid 1,000,000 baht and got a 5 year visa, renewable every five years. along with that country club and golf membership, vip shuttle to and from airport. when it came out it was 40:1 so it was basically $25k.

a lot of money but if you plan to be in thailand for many years not a bad price to pay to never have to worry about your visa.

now all those people are fucked, thai government just grimming all 2,500 of them for 2,500 * 1,000,000 baht....dont know how much money that is but its a lot of 000's
