First Topic is School .... Then and Now >>> 1957 vs 2007. Has the whole world gone crazy :confused: after reading this mail it made me realise in how many different ways the world has changed. Can anyone add any other complete turn arounds ? One of course is the way poker and society is. Anyway here is school :(

Scenario :
Jack goes rabbit shooting before school,
pulls into school parking lot with rifle in gun rack.

1957 - Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's rifle, goes to his car and gets his rifle & chats with Jack about guns.

2007 - School goes into lock down, Star Force called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his ute or gun again.. Counsellors called in for traumatized students and teachers.

Scenario:
Johnny and Mark get into a fistfight after school.

1957 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.

2007 - Police called, arrests Johnny and Mark. Charge them with assault, both expelled even though Johnny started it. Both children go to anger management programs for 3 months. School board hold meeting to impliment bullying prevention programs

Scenario:
Robbie won't be still in class, disrupts other students.

1957 - Robbie sent to office and given 6 of the best by the Principal. Returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.

2007 - Robbie given huge doses of Ritalin. Becomes a zombie. Tested for ADD. Robbie's parents get fortnightly disability payments and School gets extra funding from state because Robbie has a disability.

Scenario :
Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.

1957 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college, and becomes a successful businessman.

2007 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy removed to foster care and joins a gang. State psychologist tells Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison.

Scenario :
Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.

1957 - Mark gets glass of water from Principal to take aspirin with.

2007 - Police called, Mark expelled from school for drug violations. Car searched for drugs and weapons.

Scenario :
Pedro fails high school English.

1957 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college.

2007 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. AFRE files class action lawsuit against state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English banned from core curriculum. Pedro given diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.

Scenario :
Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from 4th of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle, blows up a bullant nest.

1957 - Ants die.

2007- Star Force, Federal Police & Anti-terrorism Squad called. Johnny charged with domestic terrorism, Feds investigate parents, siblings removed from home, computers confiscated. Johnny's Dad goes on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.

Scenario :
Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.

1957 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.

2007 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.

Hmm lots of this is overdramatized and presented in a lopsided way. Lots of things are defintely better today then 50 years ago and yes somethings are today are over the top and unnessesary and wrong but this article is complete bs if its ment to be serious.

I remember in my school, I got busted with an empty 1L bottle vodka on class travel and nothing much happened. We also used to smoke weed and everyone knew it, 1 day we had some free time before to lesson and went to the park to smoke a joint, we go back to class pretty high when the principal crosses us and says something along the lines " hey, did you smoke this herbs again " " we just laughed and moved on " ...

Oh now iam pretty happy I made this anti agression training, helps me in lots of situations and besides it was fun to break out of the barracks at night and take a journey around the lake finding a drunk dude on the way who turns out to be bar owner wich results in us going to his bar getting a fresh one for free and a 20*0,5 supply aka http://www.walthers.de/image/blog/RadebergerFreiberger.jpg
and almost capering a row boat to turn back across because we were getting tired...

too bad all those fuckers hide their rows at night so we end up getting into the restricted area of the retaining dam crossing it sprinting most likely undetected by the securoty guards and arrive approx 9. And the instructors were like " ya we said if you are back at time for breakfast is okay, the activies late rthat day were also pretty fun including building a boat.

Okay maybe in america they will send the national guard after us...

No kids down my road were messing with fireworks and only got a talking to from the police last bonfire night so this is more nonsense

1. Have seen my 3 boys shake hands after a fight and in the coming weeks become friends with the guys they had the fight with. On the other hand have seen VERY BAD fights at the school with police called, charges laid , court cases and expelling. Infact almost every primary school in NSW Australia now has anti bullying programs
2. There are approx 18 children / 300 who couldn't sit still and interrupted the class by going as far as breaking things who are infact on ADD meds. The school gets funding and the childrens parents receive disability for them. Again NSW AUSTRALIA. Take a closer look at the rest of the world.
3. They are comparisons no one is ever going to go to college and be successful because of a whipping lol. The comparison shows the difference between a good hard spanking and the way the law deals with the "spankers now" and the result on the childs life.
4. Agree with the asprin comment HOWEVER, any drug of any kind is banned from schools in NSW. They must be forwarded to the office with medical information. This is over exaggerated.
5. Agree this hardly ever happens, but attempts HAVE been made by parents on numerous occasions to sue for failure for 1 reason or another.
6. Fire crackers are illegal in this country unless held by a pyrotechnic. This IS the case in Australia. We no longer have bonfire nights nor cracker nights. If you were caught with any sort of explosives certainly there would be a HUGE drama. You would definitely make the news.
7. Pretty commonly known, there is a no touch policy for teachers. This could well be seen as an incorrect way to handle a childs injured knee especially by a hard ass parent who doesn't want their little johnny petted up. This is a little over board though.

In Australia Rules are VERY Strict on matters such as the above / below. In your country it may be different. I do believe however there is some of exaggeration in some areas. In saying this ..... it is bent 1 way, the negative way. There have been many positives come from our harsh rules.

Hmm ill be not more involved in this discussion further. Just 1point is important to me. Abuse of children is wrong, its too sad that this is far from beeing a common sense in todays world... It doesnt matter if you called it abusing with a belt or a " good old hard whipping " . The results in childs psyche might be beyond youre imagination ( they certainly are if youre shortsighted like this ) . Iam not judging, just saying that abuse of children no matter how inoccent you make it sound is something I really detest

hmmm, this is making me sound EVIL. I am 100% against child abuse and infact campaign against it. Physical, mental or sexual abuse is not on!!!
My wording has obviously given the wrong thought ...

If a child is spanked it is slapped on the bottom with the hand in Danielle terminology (I dont mean belt it or belt it up or anything like that I would want to choke someone if they treated a child that way!!). I would smack my child on the leg or bottom though if it were really bad. In the part below it does state with a belt though, I should have read more thoroughly. :o

I dont see anything wrong with that. Sure we all had our fight were we made friends after but ive also seen some very very sad stuff wich should never have been happened. We should rather be teached to solve our conflicts non violent.

Ive been in my fair share of fight and I was always on the " smart " side but ive seen and done some bad things to others wich I now regret. I think with some programms this coulve been avoided.
