Please teach us non-danes some Dansk in this thread
I think I figured this one out:
Tak for din email
Thank you for the email? lol
So tak=thanks?
Din=the?
More common words and phrases please!
this (http://www.translation-guide.com/free_online_translators.php?from=Danish&to=English) is the best translator I found but it leaves half of the words untranslated and the rest sounds like shakespear--like this:
for have poker when can ever behold to thine master told
:confused::confused:

Gotta love when the administrators are learning a new language in order to communicate with the players :D
Al respekt herfra.

Al respekt herfra.
=
Al respect of here.
Perfect example. I know you didn't mean to say 'al respect of here' and you guys don't speak like that. Why does it always translate that way?
I still don't know what that means

do you use the translator I linked to because when I type "Al respekt herfra" in it I get
"Al respect from here"

"Al respect from here"
ya well that still doesn't mean anything in english.
al is not a word, it is a mans name. does it mean to say all? respect, from and here all mean something but not together.
i use babelfish.yahoo.com a lot of spanish, portuguese and other languages and it works quite well but danish seems to be hard to translate.

yeah danish is not a easy languages to learn. If I shall explain what "al respect herfra" means I would say it's a way to say that you have all his respekt or something like that if you now what I mean because you trying to learn danish think thats the best way I can explain it. Im not the best at english so maybe somebody els can translate it properly

The problem with translation is that even if you translate every word correct, the meaning does not come by itself because a language is not buildt by words alone. The order of the words has its own rules which might have influence for the meaning. And "worst" of all: the meaning of some words in one language can only be expressed in another by 2 or more words.
The use of a word like "the" in english has no exact parallel in danish. Example: You say car and The car, we say bil and bilen. Germans says auto and die Auto, but they change the word in front depending on the word that comes after e.g. der Man and das Frau.
The same word can also have more than one use in the same language. In danish we have kort, which could be short, card or map. I used that yesterday in a comment on Gus' stoneface, expressing in danish that his attitude does not reveal his cards. In the Google-translation it became "shorts", which is something completely different!
A phrase like Al respekt herfra can't be translated directly like All respect from here - though that would be the exact meaning of every single word. I would probably say "You have my respect".

Yes exactly. I think I will use this thread and post things I don't understand and hopefully somebody will translate it for me...so I don't clutter up your other threads with my learning.
Thanks for the Dansk lesson.

I har jo prakket os nogle broer på, der gør at I klæber jer til os, så I er selv ude om det - med mindre i klipper et par kabler naturligvis...
Google says:
I have prakket us some bridges on which I stick to you for us, so I myself out of it - with less of rocks a few cables of course ...

Impossible to understand without the context and knowledge to danish geography and politics.
In Denmark we make fun of each other depending of the part of the country we come from. It is mostly between us in the "mainland", the continental Jutland, and those (like etronics) coming from the island of Zealand with Copenhagen.
10 years ago Zealand was connected to the continent by a bridge. It took 6 years to build the bridge (13+ km), but ahead of that came 40 years of discussion.
So what I wrote to etronics was
"You have forced us to have bridges, so it is your own fault you stick to us (in Jutland) - unless you cut the cables of course"
Hope that makes just a little more sense.

well WD... for many many years ... Jutland has been a pain in the a.. they just want highways so the few cars they have, can drive more than 130 km/h on a high way, insted of the 160 km/h on the main roads.
Then the local Jutland mafia agreed to build a road and bridge, so they can drive to Zealand... with out a passport.
The only thing Jutlands have is sand... like sahara... nothing else we want... maybe some of the girls....(my wife made me write this)
