Hi to all the ladies on ThePlayr.com :)

I have started this thread so we can whine, biatch and complain about how hard it is for us at times in the world of poker JUST because we are females. In addition this thread is so we can support each other and discuss issues related to being a female poker play that the males just couldn't understand without us telling them.

The poker world is really tough and more so for us I believe. We are called names that only woman can be called and some men say them freely making us feel just terrible. This can be a real downer in a tournament as you probably know :(.

In most tournaments we are well and truly out numbered by males, of course if our game is up with theirs this shouldn't make a difference. It does however in my experience put a lot more pressure on us as they seem to hone in and choose us as their attack victim. (Again I must stipulate the words "some men".)

In live tournament and cash game situations being a women can sometimes be handy thing (on a positive note) hehe. :o:p

I mentioned in another thread that poker players are always learning. I encourage all males to freely participate or comment in the thread and see it as a learning curve for all guys out there also. "Poker through the eyes of women !!" Surely even a Pro male player would have to learn something from this.

Regardless post away ladies & men if you wish.... let me know if you agree there is a difference in playing as a woman and if you agree to or disagree to anything in my post.

And ladies .... if you ever find yourself in tears for being sexually attacked at a table. We can hopefully be a shoulder for each other :)

I am hoping that this thread takes off in a big way and encourages more females to the site and forum and eventually plays a key role in the poker world of women :)

Slinky post in my thread please lol. We cant have the ladies thread closing. :( :(

Does anyone know how many women are on here so far? Out of these woman, how many can speak english ? I would really love to know. It appears not many or >>>> they dont wish to state they are a woman for the above mentioned reasons lol. :D

lol sorry Danielle..i'm sure soon as i start playing poker i'll have loads to say!!

Not played poker "properly" since losing my roll but will be back at the tables full force very soon :D

Bring on sunday so we can show those guys how to play ;):p

Danielle Angel
10-24-2008, 02:08 PM
Dang, you lost your roll, that really sux !!! :(

The same happened to me not so long ago, it took ALOT of grinding at the tables for hours on end to get back on track. I stuck with the CAP no limit 10/25c tables to do it. The risk is minimal (max $7.50 and your classed as all in) you win slower though thats the downside.

I got my advice from a pro I had been chatting with for some time. He kept telling me to get my ass there that the tables were calling me. Needless to say I do not chat with him now, he wanted a little more then poker chat and boy did he go to an effort and a 1/2 to try and get it !!!!!

Slinky
10-24-2008, 02:19 PM
Pffffffffffffft!!!!!!!!! Sounds upsetting!

Thing is with those capped games i find everyhand at the cap pre alot.. as its so cheap people just throw it in with any 2!! I'll find my way back up again im sure but just having a good long break ;)
That break ends this sunday when the league starts :D

Danielle Angel
10-24-2008, 02:25 PM
Well, here's hoping you kick some ass and get right back on track. The minute I am out (if I get knocked out ??? hmmmm ) I will be cheering you on for the win :D We have to have at least one lady present in the bubble LMAO !!!!!!! Maybe Kegs will make it. Regardless one of us I hope. :D :D

Yes it was upsetting btw. :( I had to delete him from yahoo and eventually he gave up his crude messages on my facebook (which I kept deleting) and he then deleted me lol. There was no way I was going to publicly delete him, so glad he deleted me :)

10-24-2008, 02:33 PM
Well its his loss to lose you as a friend cos your a great girl :)
I'm sure there are going to be some very good players in this league and looking forwards to not only playing with all you guys but discussing hands etc.. after :D

Danielle Angel
10-24-2008, 02:49 PM
Yes I think I am looking forward to this tournament more then the tournament I played for 750k (which I bummed out in very quickly lol). I was very proud I must say to have gotten that far though !! There is no fun in serious tournaments. No one chats, its all play play play. This will be different I am sure !!! :) :) ANd yes what a bonus we can discuss the hands after wards :D

Hi ladies :) It makes me so happy to see you here !!!! I dont think there are many lady poker player threads in the world, this one could be a first so lets make the most of it :)

Firstly hotte you have to tell me who is in that picture and how much that giant check is for :D (Or is that a silly question?? :p)

I am really hoping you can make it Ms Izzy, it will be a shame if you can't. The more the merrier :)

Glad to see we are all from different places. I am sure poker for us ladies is very different globally and I am thrilled to be able to talk to you all about it !!!! I see alot of German players on fulltilt, Is poker must be as big in Germany as in the US, UK and Aus. I don't see so many Danish players on fulltilt. Is this because of the time difference ? Let me know.

Anyway, hoping that one of us makes the bubble at least or even wins so we can brag in our thread. Come and visit regularly with an whines or stories about poker which have had an impact on you merely because you are female.

Good Luck on Sunday All if you make it :) :) :)

HI Danielle,

to answer your question, poker is not as big here in Germany as it is in the U.S. or Australia, but it´s coming.

Full Tilt hosted the One Million Euro Challenge the last two yeras in Germany, and it was a huge success.

Poker is getting really popular here, but it´s not a "sport for the masses" as it is abroad yet.

Wish all the ladies the best of luck on sunday :-).

Did I see ladies on the final table ? Lady winners even ?? :D :D :D

I watched part of the final table of the $10 tourney and there were definitely some gals on there..... 3 that I saw :D. Certainly a ladies day :) In saying that I can not be 100% sure they were ladies lol. I saw some of us ladies dressed as men hehe. Therefore assume that there could be men dressed as ladies lmao. I am thinking there is no way I can disguise myself as a man with my nick / alias. Big mistake I think on my part.

What great fun the tournaments were regardless of the outcome !!!!! I certainly wont be missing any !!!! :)

A big congrats to our winners LADIES or men :)

Hi...sorry I been a little slow on the forum...been busy with university. :(
I'm a girl too....but I'm not that great at poker...and to be honest don't play that much live games to get a male response....but when I do, well I don't really mind it that much....there's all kinds of responses you get from the different men at the table ya sit at, there's: the 'you're infirior'' response, the ''I'ma take her chips'' response, the ''what a cute thing, lets see what she can do'' response, and obviously there will be one who thinks you're hot. lol
The reason why I don't mind it is because I'm used to all kinds of male reactions, but I know why I'm there, and to be honest I think that whole thing - thinking about being a girl playing against guys only gets in the way. I for one can't stop smiling in live games, i find the whole thing funny. Not good, not good at all ;)
But at the same time, their atittude only makes the rush of beating them extra pleasent. Am I wrong?

Slinky
10-27-2008, 12:06 PM
Welcome pip-sta :) And i cant comment on live play as i'm yet to try it :( No casino's anywhere near me :(

Danielle Angel
10-28-2008, 12:37 AM
Oh the rush of beating them is definitely great !!!

January this year I played a live tournament. From this tournament there were 3 things I remember and will never forget.

The first ..... I sat down at the table last and the first thing said was "Watch this lady in red guys lol". I smirked. Then the chatter was all about me :( The only lady at the table and about 5/100 in the room. I must say I felt uneasy !!!

The second thing I remember is knocking out the regional champion lol. He had been trying to bully me and me only. I was BB he went all in and I called as frankly I just wanted to go home call was with J/10c. He says "Is that all you have ??" I was sooo embarrassed. He starts laughing and turns over a 74o. :D A male and a great feeling, more to the point he was the one who made the comment about watching the lady in red. He took it really easily and sat back for a while watching the table.

I then knocked out the player to his right who he had been chitter chatting with. This player took on the role of bullying me also. Again wanting to go home I made a ridiculous donkey call lol with 5/6s. Needless to say he turned over AQ suited and I won. His mate who was watching said again "I told you to watch the lady in red". He went beserk !!!!!!!! He swore and yelled at me, went absolutely crazy. He was told to settle down and that was the end of my mood. I already wanted to throw the towel in .... definitely after this !!!!

Summary .... a great high knocking them out, but a very 1 eyed nerve racking game. To be honest I have not played a live tourney or cash game where I have not felt the same. Maybe its something I have to overcome.

Lol Dannielle....that game sounds like it was a nice ride for ya ;) although I don't get why men do that.....do they really think they can outsmart us?

I wish I had been there with ya Dannielle, they woulda hated the ''arrogant'' grin I woulda pull at them. Especially the violent one...he woulda taken it out on me ;) coz of the way I woulda giggled my face off. Usually I'm well behaved, but if there's something I hate is people who think they are superior.

Is it because men really see us girls as the sensitive beings that can't handle what they think is just their ways?
C'mon then boys....do explain yourselves! lol :p

Slinky
10-28-2008, 10:56 AM
Arghhh that sounds awful Danielle..but i'm with pip on this one, if that was me knocking out "big heads" i'd laugh at them all the way out of the casino :D I wish i was there too..oh the fun i would've had with those guys and i assure you would'nt have felt like that Danielle .. hold your head up high and ignore them ;)

Damn i'm going to have to get me to a live game..i'm sure if i look hard enough i'll find something around my area :)

If ya can't find a casino Slinky, you could try looking for those pub poker leagues....I used to go to one when I started playing and knew I was just learning, still am learning :p

Hi ladies. I play lots of live tournaments and must take this opportunity to pass on some info to you from a males prospective. I look at every player equally until I determine their skill level and ability. Then I attack male or female. Certainly there are times where my eyes wonder and look at places they probably shouldn't and I tend to lose concentration. All in all, I play against the women the same as men. If anything, women have an advantage against my prying eyes :(.

There are a lot of men I have seen targeting women though. Being nasty and slanderous towards them. I find 9 times out of 10 the other males in the poker room put an immediate stop to this though. In saying that, it does seem to effect the ladies games after they have copped this sort of treatment. Being verbally abused by someone twice your size and name called I guess has to have an impact on your mental state. This sort of thing in my experience does not happen at higher level tournaments though. Only lower level ones in the rougher type places such as pub ones and of course religiously on the net. This is where I see it occur most often !!!

I do not envy you ladies ! I have been disgusted myself in some of the things women have gone through on poker sites. Watching the abuse and name calling has ruined my concentration let alone theirs. Some suggestions to avoid this. Use a male avator or turn off the chat. Otherwise mentally turn yourself away from it and concentrate on the cards. In saying this, I would not use a women avator lol or turn off my chat. Mental and emotional ignorance to it is the key I think. Hope this is of some benefit :)

Danielle Angel
10-30-2008, 10:20 PM
haha, thanks pokerfishing. Nothing you havn't told me before though :). I am sure it will e very beneficial for the other ladies. As I have tried to say, it is really hard to switch off to the attacks. Definitely it all comes down to strategy to deal with it though. Good to see a males point of view !!!!!!!!!!!! Hope there are some more posts on here soon by you guys :). This could turn into a great and very helpful debate. For the record .... pokerfishing is my boyfriend and apparently has prying eyes and is now in trouble lol :D

Ladies, I am in agony :(, have a wisdom tooth in my mouth which they attempted to remove which is now snapped at the roots. My child has chicken pox and my boyfriend is in hospital. There may be no tournament for me. In addition I am drugged for the pain :D lol so if I have written anything which makes no sense forgive me. I needed 5 mins of mental peace from my household craziness and here I am lol. Hope I see you in a few hours. At this stage it is not looking good though :(

Back to bed and try again hopefully in 4 1/2 hours. Regardless if I feel ok or not I am thinking I wont be much competition ..... the more the merrier though right ? :p

Hey there all you girls.

Not a girl myself but just wanted to mention that I myself really have a hard time playing against girls in live tourneys. Don't know why. But anyway. I enjoy that poker is just not for guys and it's great to see more and more females joining poker communitys around the internet. Not only here. I grew up with 8 sisters. So im used to loosing to girls and still be standing :D

Well. Just wanted to say hi :P

Danielle Angel
11-11-2008, 11:57 AM
Hi Froedo !!! You are very welcome to comment or say hi at any time. The ladies thread is for the participation of males also. Thank you very much for your input already. I am glad so glad to see some male opinion.

For what reasons is it hard to play live against ladies do you think ? :p Also is it the same on the net for you ?

Again feel free to drop a post here anytime !!! You are very welcomed !!! :D

Danielle Angel

Welcome to all the new ladies on the forum. :) Be sure to drop in and say hi !!!!

Froedo
11-13-2008, 07:17 AM
Well i actually never ask if people are guys or girls online. But the reason it's hard to play against girls live is that I really do think girls have an advantage. It's like in life. Girls are always good at hiding the truth where guys really suck at lying :P Haha. No i really don't know why. But im not embarresed to loose to a girl anyway. I played a lot with one of my girlfriends and i lost to her as many times as i won. :)

Danielle Angel
12-13-2008, 09:15 AM
OK ladies :) I will not let this thread die out !!!!

There are a few new ladies who have joined us I am sure.... Hi to KatieThatLovesToCruise I am sure you are a lady ... a little birdie told me ;). Also hi to any other ladies that have recently joined the playr. Please come say hi to us happy and funny group of gals ;) Guys more then welcome too, to voice your opinion alike pokerfishing and Froedo have.

Any whines of late ladies or even hot new boyfriend goss lol. Here is my latest whine as a lady poker player :-

A few weeks ago I got hotted up and went to Melbourne. A man started talking poker and I started talking back. Seems they (the group) were coincidentally just about ALL live poker players hehe. Into about 10 mins of discussion it was no longer group discussion. Everyone of the men were talking directly at me about thier poker stories. 1 by 1 they tried to out do each other. Of course they all commented etc to the man talking each time but converse was directly at me. Being the only woman I guess I was cornered into a corner of "I want to impress you".

Moral of my story (whine) , if you are seen to be single, and with a group of male poker players; unless they are hot and you are keenly interested in one of them........DO NOT under any circumstances say you play poker or you will be caught up in a non stop AT YOU conversation of impressible shit hehe :D

By the way, I think we should move the sexiest poker player hunt to this thread ... being the sexiest MALE poker player. Any new finds or spots ladies ? There has to be cuter then what we have found out there already

TO: MR. JAMES THATCHER
BRAND MANAGER, PROCTER & GAMBLE

I have been a loyal user of your Always maxi pads for over 20 years, and I appreciate many of their features. Why, without the LeakGuard Core(tm) or Dri-Weave(tm) absorbency, I'd probably never go horse riding or Salsa dancing, and I'd certainly steer clear of running up and down the beach in tight, white shorts. But my favourite feature has to be your revolutionary Flexi-Wings. Kudos on being the only company smart enough to realize how crucial it is that maxi pads be aerodynamic. I can't tell you how safe and secure I feel each month knowing there's a little F-16 in my pants.
Have you ever had a menstrual period, Mr. Thatcher? Ever suffered from "the curse"? I'm guessing you haven't. Well, my "time of the month" is starting right now. As I type, I can already feel hormonal forces violently surging through my body. Just a few minutes from now, my body will adjust and I'll be transformed into what my husband likes to call "an inbred hillbilly with knife skills." Isn't the human body amazing?
As brand manager in the feminine-hygiene division, you've no doubt seen quite a bit of research on what exactly happens during your customers' monthly visits from Aunt Flo. Therefore, you must know about the bloating, puffiness, and cramping we endure, and about our intense mood swings, crying and out-of-control behaviour. You surely realise it's a tough time for most women. In fact, only last week, my friend Jennifer fought the violent urge to shove her boyfriend's testicles into a George Foreman Grill just because he told her he thought Grey's Anatomy was written by drunken chimps.
Crazy! The point is, sir, you of all people must realize that the UK is just crawling with homicidal maniacs in Capri pants. Which brings me to the reason for my letter. Last month, while in the throes of cramping so painful I wanted to reach inside my body and yank out my Uterus, I opened an Always maxi pad, and there, printed on the adhesive backing, were these words: "Have a Happy Period."
Are you *+*#ing kidding me?
What I mean is, does any part of your tiny middle-manager brain really think happiness - actual smiling, laughing happiness - is possible during a menstrual period? Did anything mentioned above sound the least bit pleasurable? Well, did it, James? FYI, unless you're some kind of sick S&M freak, there will never be anything "happy" about a day in which you have to jack yourself up on Nurofen and Kahlúa and lock yourself in your house just so you don't march down to the local Tesco's armed with a hunting rifle and a sketchy plan to end your life in a blaze of glory. For the love of God, pull your head out, man. If you just have to slap a moronic message on a maxi pad, wouldn't it make more sense to say something that's actually pertinent, like "Put Down the hammer" or "Vehicular Manslaughter Is Wrong"? - Or are you just picking on us? Sir, please inform your accounting department that, effective immediately, there will be an £8 drop in monthly profits, for I have chosen to take my maxi-pad business elsewhere. And though I will certainly miss your Flexi-Wings, I will not for one minute miss your brand of condescending bullsh1t. And that's a promise I will keep. Always.

Best,

Wendi Aarons

Still hunting for Mr Sexy Pro btw ladies .... will see what tallent is at crown and get some snaps ;)

Ladies i believe that i have found the hottest professional poker player. His name is Eric Stiglets. I have a pic of this hottie I will up load tmor !! The ones on the net do this guy no justice. He is a SPUNK !!!!

Also coming in a very close second from what I have seen so far is Michael Vartan. yummo, was great sitting next to him and chatting to him last night lol :D

My b/f poker fishing agrees that Eric is one Hot Guy !! (and Tyrone (pokerfishing) is obviously not gay hehe), a real compliment to Stiglets imo coming from him.

Will try and get the pic on here ASAP.

P.S. Eric Stiglets I believe to be married but looking doesn't hurt ;) sure his wife will be proud :)

I think this might be a good issue to be discussed on our ladies thread!

Very often my boyfriend is very angry with me because he thinks I´m paying too much attention to poker, which means playing poker, watching poker, reading poker and having poker on my mind, and thereby neglecting our relationship ( that´s his opinion btw.).

I really would like to know what´s your experience on that subject.

Btw. Men´s experience also welcome ;)

I broke up with my partner today because of poker related issues. Need I say anymore :(. My children yell at me also and complain about me playing, reading, talking and going to poker. :(
In addition I believe when 2 people are partnered and both play poker it causes more issues. Not only are there the ordinary household disagreements and stressors such as finances, but bank role management disagreements, and stupid crap like play styles. Also always 1 partner is a better player and it effects the other like no tmor.

A YEEEESSSS from me!!!

Nice question, great post :)

I found this interesting article, hopefully thee writer doesnt mind me posting it.

Poker and Relationships, Do they really mix?

Do they really mix? If you’re lucky enough to have a partner who enjoys playing poker as much as you do, then you’re luckier than a lot of other players. Of course, you’ll have your own set of problems such as managing bankrolls together, making sure that the both of you don’t exceed the amount set aside to play with, etc.

I’m one of those women whose husband/partner doesn’t play poker. He doesn’t know the flop from the river and when I tell him I was counterfeited on the turn, he gets this glazed look in his eyes that tell me he has no clue as to what I’m talking about. Now, don’t get me wrong, compared to where he is now to where he was three years ago and it’s amazing how much he has tried to learn about poker, in order to carry on a conversation with me as poker seems to be all I ever talk about anymore.

There are times though when he just doesn’t seem to “get it”. He doesn’t understand the need for a separate poker bankroll and doesn’t understand the need to constantly replenish that bankroll, especially since I play tournaments only and can go weeks, sometimes months, without winning one. When I do win one, it’s hard to explain to him that I need to keep most of the winnings for the bankroll; instead, he sees it as money that I’ve won, that should be coming back into the household. Money that can pay for the new couch, a new computer, new toys!!

There are times when he doesn’t understand the time involved in playing a tournament, or the level of concentration needed and doesn’t understand how I can spend hours upon hours in front of the computer playing a tournament when I could be doing other things with my time.

However, together, we have learned to compromise. This is the key element to successfully having a relationship with a non-poker playing companion. You must compromise the time spent and the money spent, playing poker. We’ve reached a compromise that I would only play online tournaments after 7-8pm during the week, and on the weekends I’m free to play whenever I want as long as we don’t have plans with friends or relatives. We’ve also agreed that I would only travel outside the USA for poker tournaments three times a year, unless him and my daughter go with me, then I can travel more. I’m free to go to Las Vegas or Southern California as often as the bankroll permits, since those locations are fairly close to home.

As far as money spent goes, we’ve agreed that from every tournament win, I’m allowed a certain amount of money to keep for the poker bankroll, and the rest comes back into the household. Don’t get me wrong, if I know that the money is needed in order to maintain the household, then it all comes back to the house, but I’ve been fortunate enough where I’ve been able to play “for fun” and not for the need of the money for awhile now. However, there is still the need to replenish the funds taken from the household in order to play poker upon a win, kind of like “paying back the backer”.
I’ve posted about our unique situation to a popular online forum and the feedback was absolutely amazing. I never realized that so many people are going through what I’m going through with a non-poker playing partner and it was quite eye opening. I truly thought I was one of the “rare” ones that have to constantly explain the time and money spent on poker. However, I found out that I was one of many and the biggest agreement seemed to be in the compromising.

Now, sometimes compromising doesn’t work and then the relationship will usually break down, that’s happened to a lot with poker players and while non-poker players can’t understand how someone is willing to throw away a relationship for the game of poker, poker players can’t understand how someone isn’t willing to understand the deep desire and passion that poker seems to bring out of us.

While I would never be willing to throw away a relationship for the game of poker, I would be willing to throw away a relationship with someone who couldn’t or wouldn’t comprehend the love and joy that the game of poker brings to me. Who couldn’t support my dreams and goals 100%. After all, as a partner, isn’t that supposed to be the goal, to make your partner happy? To support your partner 100% in whatever his/her dreams or goals are while doing the same for him/her is what a successful relationship means to me.

Luckily, with the compromising that my husband and I have agreed to, we were able to “fix” the situation before it got out of control. I strongly urge every woman poker player to assess her current situation with her partner and to make those compromises now, before it’s too late, in order to keep both your partner happy and your relationship alive, while still continuing to play poker, the game we’ve grown to love!
